Welcome to Lucan CNS!
Hello everyone and thank you for visiting our school’s website!
Lucan CNS is a state, co-educational, multi-denominational school under the patronage of
Dublin and Dún Laoghaire Education and Training Board. Lucan CNS first opened its doors in
2013. Since 2017, we have been situated in our new permanent school building off the
Balgaddy Road, Lucan, Co. Dublin.
Our developing school now caters for all children from infants to sixth class, including the
two classes in our CSE for children with Autism. We have nearly 400 pupils enrolled
for the 2024/25 school year, up from our less than 10 founding pupils in our first month of
opening in 2013! As we have grown in size, we have been very fortunate to engage an
innovative, highly dedicated and enthusiastic team of teachers, SNAs and ancillary staff. This
is matched by the enthusiasm and commitment of our pupils and parents.
The vision of Lucan Community National School is to create a caring, calm and safe child-
centred environment, a learning space where each child is welcomed, respected and
cherished, and a place where a deep sense of belonging, empathy and respect for others is
championed.
Lucan CNS is a digital school whereby pupils from 2nd to 6th Class have 1:1 iPad devices that our managed by our educational partners Wriggle.ie to ensure robust child-safeguarding. The school community as a whole share in creating learning opportunities that are stimulating and appropriate to 21st Century learning needs – recognising and celebrating individual talents and abilities, allowing for each pupil to strive to do their personal best.
You can view ‘snapshots’ of our daily life here at Lucan CNS via our Twitter link which
highlights some of the learning experiences created across all class levels. For latest
updates, please view the Notice Board and for all other information, please see the relevant
tabs at the top of this homepage or to the left of this post.
We look forward to another busy year and wish our school community continued good health and happiness.
Claire Downes, Principal
